Guest Blogger - The Blonde Flamingo's Travel Guide to the Seychelles

Happy New Year Marble Babes!

We don't know about you, but the January blues have us planning our getaways for the coming year. We all need something to look forward to, to get us through hey!? So, in search of inspiration for you all, we sat down with our friend Dominika, the face of the gorgeous travel and style blog 'The Blonde Flamingo' to ask her a bit about one of her favourite places, The Seychelles and to gather a few tips for anyone with this on their 2018 travel list.

Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you ended up doing what you do.
Hi. My Name is Dominika and I am Polish-born, London based Travel and Style Influencer. How did it all start? Since I can remember I've always loved travelling and I would spent my last pennies on plane ticket even for just a weekend getaway (rather than a night out). I've been regularly posting photos from my trips on my Instagram not only to share my adventures but also to encourage and inspire others to do the same. I've been getting a lot of lovely messages and comments that was pushing me to create more and more. It was nothing else but hobby and passion that turned into a business last year. I would never have expected that! Couldn't be happier to get paid for what I love doing!
Where did you travel to in the Seychelles and where did you stay?

I travelled to Seychelles from London, with a quick stop in Ethiopia, landed in Mahe- the main island. As Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands the best way to explore them is move around the islands by ferries. We have started our trip in Mahe- in a beautiful, bohemian style hotel- Bliss Boutique set between white sandy beaches and lush tropical vegetation! What a dream! After 4 days we took Cat Cocos ferry and moved to another island - Praslin. I have fallen in love straight away! Talcum-powder sands, turquoise waters, lush hills, granite rocks, smell of tropical flowers, colourful birds. Absolutely unbelievable! Praslin was also the island where I witnessed the most magical sunsets.

After 3 days we moved to another bucket list island- La Digue. It was so easy to access it by ferry- only 15 mins away from Praslin. It was definitely my favourite island! I fell in love with Anse Source D'Argent beach!  Never seen anything like that before. I couldn't believe my eyes.

How many days did you spend there and was it long enough?

We spent 11 days in total. I would say for the 3 islands we visited  it was enough but if you'd like to visit more I would say 2 full weeks would be ideal.

Was there anything that surprised you about the Seychelles?
Seychelles did surprise me a lot- they were more beautiful in real life than all the photos I've browsed before going there. I have never seen any place so perfect. I was so sad to leave! It is a real paradise on Earth and I recommend everyone to go there!

What was your favourite thing about the Seychelles?

The people. Every single local person I've met there- from hotel staff, boat crew to local vendors and families who ran the guesthouses I've stayed at. Everyone was just so warm and friendly. I felt safe and welcome wherever I went.

What's the best thing to eat whilst you're there?

My favourite dish ( that I had almost every single day!) was octopus curry! So delicious! I am also a big fruit eater, so Seychelles was paradise for me! Apart from my tropical favourites I also tried breadfruit which is very famous in the Seychelles. It can be eaten in a variety of ways : fresh, fried and boiled. Legend has it that anyone who eats it while on the islands will return someday. YES, PLEASE!

What did you pack to be so stylish on your trip? And, what are your top 5 packing essentials?

It's all about bikinis, cover ups and pretty beach accessories. I have packed my favourite reversible bikini from Marble Swimwear, foot jewellery from Renee Shoes, round basket from Manana Jewels, my tropical kimonos from Dancing Leopard and my favourite Palma Silk Delilah Jumpsuit from Misterzimi. I also always pack my best travel buddy- flamingo pool float and Face & Body Milk with high 50+ SPF protection from Vichy. I always travel with 2 power banks and favourite snacks (just in case I get hungry on the long flight!)

Top 5 Tips for travelling to the Seychelles

1. Don't forget the sun protection. The sun is very strong, it's easy to get burnt!

2. The best way to explore Mahe and Praslin is to rent a car. I found taxis pretty expensive.

3. When in La Digue Island have a sunset dinner at Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie hotel. It's simply breathtaking experience!

4. Book your Cat Coco ferry tickets in advance, we didn't and the only seats available were business class so we paid almost double.

5. Get an extra memory card for your camera! I promise you will run out of space!
